Internet restrictions

what is UA’s internet policy like? are students allowed to use VPN’s for privacy reasons, and to connect to their home computers? are there blocking filters? bandwidth limits?

also, who is the isp? the university or a third party? thanks :D

A list of rules governing use of UA’s ResNet can be found at [Networking Acceptable Use Agreement](http://oit.ua.edu/services/resnet/about/acceptuse.html) . Apart from certain file sharing services, I do not know of any websites that are blocked on ResNet. While I am not aware of a specific bandwidth limit, I would assume that UA reserves the right to limit bandwidth usage, though I haven’t known anyone affected by such a policy. AFAIK, the university is the ISP. Last year I remember all online services being down during a period of very low use so that UA could update its servers.
