Internet Speed?

Coming from a high school with TERRIBLE wireless/wired internet speed (I can’t even play Call of Duty MW2 on my laptop online during AP English!!!) I don’t want to subject myself to the horrors of a poor internet speed or less than apt wireless internet coverage at the place I’ll be living for the next 3.5 years (3.5 because I got in Spring semester, probably related to me playing Call of Duty in my classes). So, does anyone know the internet speed/coverage? Numbers would be nice for internet speed, but I’ll take whatever knowledge you’ve got.

DS has no complaints and he would definitely complain if it were not fast enough for him!

I don’t know specific details, but I find the internet fast (most of the time). You can also get it almost anywhere on campus (I’ve never been somewhere, tried to connect, and not been able to). [See a coverage map here: Wireless Network - University of Maryland - Office of Information Technology (OIT)](http://www.oit.umd.edu/nts/noc/wireless/map.html)

It has gone down before… for about 1/2 an hour at 2am on a Saturday night once (not too much issue), and one other time. The other time was the night before a lot of people had midterms/massive papers due, and it was out across at least all of north campus (i.e. almost all freshman dorms). They do have an “emergency” line at OIT (Office of Information Technology), and they fixed it within an hour though.

The OIT site about the wireless internet: [Wireless Network - University of Maryland - Office of Information Technology (OIT)](http://www.oit.umd.edu/nts/noc/wireless/index.html)

Good, sounds like a non-issue in that case. Thanks everyone. I’ll be looking forward to some decent internet for maybe the first time in my life.

There are 3 networks. 2 are wireless and 1 is secure. The remaining one is the lan/ethernet cord. This cord almost 99.99% never fails while wireless is down. Wireless has had its cases of being down. It is very annoying.
