I connected on Facebook to the UCLA class of 2022 page and have gotten a bunch of offers to do an internship or have a leadership role in organizations related to my major. I wanted to apply but I’m an out of state student and already bought plane tickets to go out when school starts and most of the opportunities require going to the college early. I want to get into a good medical school and I feel like if I pass up these intial opportunities, that could open the door to other opportunities, then I will get very behind and not be successful in school. Additionally I was like 20 SAT points away from being in the honors program at UCLA, and I know I can reapply in the fall, but I feel behind because of that too. My parents just don’t have enough money to send me early, we’re just a middle class family who’s stretching just to send me to that school, and I live in Ohio so while I volunteer at a hospital during the summer I don’t feel like I’m doing anything extraordinary enough before freshman year of college. Should I make one of the internships happen no matter what or should I just wait to get there, and will that put me behind other kids who are private school CEO genius’ who are doing twenty different internships this summer most likely?
