Are there any professors at Columbia in the biology field who have done research and are willing to take on a high school intern? Also will they be willing to allow the student to present their research at a science competition?

Can’t speak to Columbia specifically, but I know multiple Ivies like Princeton do have some highly competitive high school research programs for that very purpose. You should browse the college department sites and maybe e-mail some research staff*(look around for the program first - I would probably avoid haphazardly contacting faculty without doing a lot of searching first).

Yea I will try that, but I am a bit apprehensive about contacting the professors. for example, do we contact the Department head or associates? and will we need more than a basic understanding of concepts to “work on” their projects?
