DS15 is going to apply for some national internships over break. this is all new to our family.
he’s in his second year of college. He has Jr. standing with credits once his grades post from this semester.
for his major, (actuarial science) he thinks most companies want kids who’ve finished their junior year. We’re trying to figure out if they would consider him a Jr or a Soph? Thoughts?
I think you need to figure out what courses these folks want completed. Perhaps third years have more of the required coursework completed than second years.
They typically want kids who have finished junior year so they can offer them jobs for the following summer when they graduate if the summer internship works out. Will he be graduating after 3 years with his extra credits, if not, I don’t think they will accept him.
This varies by major and to some extent geographical area. In many engineering and computer science fields it’s common to find internships beginning summer after sophomore year, with a few offered after freshman year.
