I am looking for an internship over the summer that would be relevant to Public Polic/Public Administration. I know a bunch of them exists in New York/DC, but I don’t really have the means to live in either of those cities for the summer while doing an unpaid internship. I’m dedicated, but I won’t become a hobo for this. Any ideas of things I could do locally? I live in a major Metropolitan Area (Montreal) so is there anything that is usually open in large cities that might be relevant to this field?

Check out city websites… if they have an internship program, it would be listed.

Also, your best resource is your internsrhip coordinator… Find out where past students have interned. The established relationship makes the internship easier to attain.

Some professors will also sponsor you for a summer internship. If you do find something on your own, and pitch it to your prof with a solid academic plan in mind, you might be able to swing some pass / no pass credits (and thus get your experience on both your resume and your transcript).

Thanks guys, those are both solid ideas.

I live ina fairly small community (pop. 10,000+) and I was thinking of going directly to the Mayors office and seeing if I could do some type of interning for him. Is this a good idea, or is a waste of time?
