<p>Is he 21? If so, Zip cars are one possibility. They can also be rented by 18- to 20-year-olds who are associated with a university. I’m not sure if that association has to be local or not. Enter 94041 in the address field to search this page:</p>

<p>Does his employer provide transportation? There are buses, light rail and a CalTrain station in Mountain View. Biking is doable as well, depending on how far he is from work.</p>
<p>My son worked as an intern last summer in Mountain View. He worked with a number of interns from out of the area, most of whom did not have cars. </p>
<p>Of course it’s easier to have one, but still possible to get around without.</p>
<p>Does he really need one?</p>
<p>My son is 26 and lives in Mountain View. He has managed without a car for a year. He commutes to work by bicycle and uses mass transit to go to other places. CalTrain is very useful.</p>
<p>ZipCar has not been useful, though, at least for my son. My son likes ZipCar and has used it in other communities, but it doesn’t seem to have a presence in Mountain View.</p>
