Hi, All, Feeling very fortunate that my daughter has an internship in Carlsbad, Northern San Diego this summer, but we live on East Coast. Does anyone have suggestions for finding summer housing in the Northern San Diego area.

I believe UCSD grad students keep their apartments over the summer and sometimes sublet them. You could check with the housing office-?
I’m assuming your D will have a car for the summer as getting around in the San Diego and Carlsbad area will be difficult without one. The suggestion above about grad student housing at UCSD is a good one. If she could sublet a place at UCSD her commute would be north on the 5 in the morning and south at night which is sort of a reverse commute. Summer traffic does tend to be a bit heavier going north and south when the Del Mar Fair and the horse races are on. My H did the commute to Carlsbad from La Jolla for many years and it was normally about a half hour.
@PennMom2012 When does your D’s internship start? UCSD is on the quarter system so school isn’t out until 2nd week of June so places would not be available from students until then.
UCSD is too far, imo. You would be closer to Carlsbad in San Marcos, where CSU San Marcos is located.
Edit: I would look at Oceanside. Fairly affordable housing given the proximity to the ocean and because of close proximity to military base.
Does she know if there will be other interns? My D was able to get an airbnb for the summer last year in Irvine, shared with 2 other interns at the same company. It worked out well for them.
Hi, All, Thanks for the replies. There are only a few interns at this office. I believe the office manager was going to share contact info, but I’m feeling like D should get her arrangements together. I think she’s looking at a FB page for UCSD but I thought that didn’t seem as convenient as could be. I’ll mention Oceanside to D. But I think she’s thinking a college sublet would have her in the midst of college age group which would be nice for her. She starts at the end of May, I believe on the 20th. Thanks again.
Since your D starts May 20th UCSD is probably not going to work for a sublet since they aren’t done with finals until mid June. Check Airbnb in the Carlsbad area.
