Internship Position Prob- Advice needed

Hi everyone,

So I applied for a STEM internship position to NJIT through AEOP and REAP. I received an email from a REAP official saying that my application was received and my admission status would be emailed back to me on May 23rd.

May 23rd, I did not receive a response so I waited and waited until June 5 (4 wks later) I emailed them telling them I never received a notification regarding my admission status and would like to know if I was accepted or not.

I did not receive an answer for 4 days so I emailed them again this morning and behold 5 minutes later, I received a response from the same person I emailed 4 days ago. She said she would forward my email and material to the professor at NJIT. I said thank you and waited for a response from the NJIT professor.

I received an email of rejection from the NJIT professor. He said them my STEM credentials were “impressive”, but could not offer me a position “due to the limited number of positions”.

I’m frustrated because I could have gotten a position if the REAP official had forwarded the NJIT professor earlier but I couldn’t and now I have literally been rejected to all 7 of the summer programs I applied to.

My question is, should I respond to the NJIT professor’s email asking about if the reason I didn’t get a position was because my application material wasn’t sent on time? Also, can someone please just give me advice on this situation in general? I’ve never experienced this before (having to ask 4 weeks and 4 days just to get a response instead of receiving one on the date) and am feeling really frustrated and bummed out.

No. Keep applying.
