Is there any reason to interview or to contact the admissions officer for schools that don’t track interest? Also question about common app- would you list vacations you went on? A book recommended this and it seemed strange. D is applying for International Relations and we did vacation abroad.

There is a separate line item in the Common Data Set for each school about how the interview is considered (in sectin C). So interview and interest are not exactly the same. If it is not considered, it is a chance for your kid to learn more about the school if they want to. I will say, if your kid really fracked up the interview, it could still hurt them, so unless your kid is a good interviewer, might not be a good idea.

Your instincts are correct, you should not put that on the application, unless it was some kind of service or educational program trip. Any other advice from that book should be suspect… :)

Thanks - I didn’t realize that interview & interest were separate items on the Common Data Set.
