im meeting at a book shop. should i dress up for this interview?

Business casual should do

Nice jeans, t-shirt without any profanity, or anything you are comfortable in. That’s my vote.

Make sure you bring a monocle.

I think it depends on the interviewer, but I showed up to my interview in jeans, a t-shirt, and flip flops. I’d recommend dressing comfortably though, whatever that can keep you relaxed.

i went ahead with the business attire: professional shoes/socks, nice dress pants and a striped dress shirt. My interviewer was dressed in equal terms id say (maybe a tad less).

My daughter wore nice jeans and sweater. The interviewer wore jeans and a t-shirt. They met at a Barnes & Noble cafe.

Dress in a way that makes you feel confident and comfortable. For some, wearing a button-down shirt or nice sweater or jacket can be …well …gently empowering. I used to do alum interviews (years ago for another college) and when an effort was made to dress neatly, it sent a positive message. Be yourself, don’t slouch, and since you’re in a bookstore, you might want to arrive early and share some thoughts about books that look interesting. And don’t forget to have some questions of your own… Good luck!
