Interview Influence

How much does an interview affect one’s chances for admission? I’m CAS and it’s a ‘coffee shop’ interview. Any thoughts?

한국사람? The interview isn’t that important as long as you don’t screw up. He/She will write some good things for you but that’s about it.

i haven’t gotten an interview and i applied in early Dec… wonder what happened. i thought they contact us no later than one month after we apply.

Well you live in Kentucky

haah…we do have alumni tho. at the last college fair, four alumni were crowding around one table. besides, i talked to them and know that they all live in Lexington. some of my friends who applied already got interviews. should i call and ask?

to tun: yup, korean
so as long as i dont screw up… sounds good!

how would one “screw up?”

good question… any answers?

Coming off as arrogant or rude ?
Very inarticulate ?

I thought it was an informational meeting. They told me it wasn’t a real interview, but whatever it was it went great anyway. At least I didn’t screw up.

Yeah, I heard it’s supposed to be a ‘non-evaluative’ interview. I guess that means informational? Well, I have to go take a midterm then rush on over to the coffee shop for the interview. Wish me luck–I’m a shy person at times, lol! Thanks everyone for your thoughts and inputs!

seoul - I know what you mean. I tend to be shy and sometimes inarticulate () in unfamiliar situations.

Well, the interview went okay–I think.
takeme2cali- I think I came off to be shy and inarticulate during the interview, haha. probably because I hadn’t slept since 2AM studying for my ap physics midterm lol
To everyone that still has their interview, I would recommend to just be yourself–and well rested!
Thanks for all the help guys!

i dont want an interview. alot of interviews i heard about go into books and anaylsis of them and crap like that and i barely remember any of the books i read

They are “non-evaluative” but your interview does write something about you.

: / i applied early dec and i still havent gotten an interview… and i live in ct there are tons of cornell ppl everywhere

same here hinvestorp. from their website, it seems cornell is having hard time sorting thro its applications (no email/phone call until Feb). i wish i could at least check whether they received my app…right now my account doesn’t show anything.

yeah I got an e-mail this past thursday from an alum wanting to schedule an interview… I think I’ll call them back tomorrow since today is sunday. My schedule has been so hectic…
so,
what is the best place to have an interview?

My son was contacted for an interview with another two local kids at a coffee shop. Should he be dressed up formally or informally? Please reply as soon as possible. Thanks.

he should dress formally. even though it is in a coffee shop, it is still an interview for a school. first impressions mean everything. i went to my college interview and there was a kid after me who wore ripped shorts, a cut-off stained tanktop, a ratty old hat, and sunglasses on top of it. i have no idea how his interview went, but if i interviewed him, i would not have given him a great review based on how he presented himself.

my interview for architecture was HUGELY weighted, since not only did i have to answer questions, but i had to present my portfolio. and i actually had to prepare a lot for the interview. i had to know some architects and what they did, had to read books on architecture, and had to tell how i perceive buildings and cities and stuff. it was intense
