Interview Messup

Hi, I am from Tennessee and I’m applying early action to MIT. In the interview I had 3 weeks ago, i accidentally slipped that I was also applying Early Decision to Cornell Engineering (dont ask why i’m doing this combination). But the person who interviewed me wrote this fact down. I’m thinking of just forgetting about applying to MIT, almost solely because of this (and the fact that I need all the time i can get to finish Cornell essays).

The reasoning behind this is that if I’m good enough for MIT, i’m good enough for Cornell Engineering. This means that if MIT wants me, they’ll still reject me because they know that I’ll probably get in Cornell Engineering Early decision which is binding. And if this happens, their yield rate goes down.

What should I do? And will the fact that i told my interview this affect my MIT application a lot?

If you can’t contact your EC and tell him/her not to mention the Cornell thingie, or if he/she has already sent his/her stuff to MIT, you can use some space in “Is there anything else you’d like us to know?”
And there you can say that blah, blah, blah - I was going to apply to Cornell, but then decided not to in the last couple of weeks…something like that
I think they’ll understand your situation

apply to MIT becuase you want to go there, not becuase it’s some sort of measure of your aptitude of getting in to college

If you can see yourself happy at MIT, apply; if not, then don’t apply. simple
