My son is interested in applying to day schools in the Boston area. We just got an email from Faye with “Tips for Acing a Secondary School Interview.” The suggestions were to practice, “Have an Agenda,” have questions for the AO prepared, and for parents to be prepared for the parental interview.
Are there any typical questions? One example given was “What is your favorite subject?” But I’m stumped about what else they could ask.
You should search previous threads, this question is among the most commonly asked…
Don’t fret too much, interviews are one of the most fun parts of an application ;)…
As for parents asking questions, I imagine it would be academic and personal issues/question you would want to know… Your child is a perspective student at XYZ school, you surely have questions… Ask them in your interview…
And tell ur son to think about his questions, and perhaps write them down… (they might involve around his interests, clubs, sport teams, etc.)
when I was interviewing at school they asked questions that are pretty easy to prep for…
what is a strength of yours?
what are some of your weakness'?
what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
what sport(a) do you play?
what made you apply here?
why do you want to come to boarding school?
what are your favorite and least favorite subjects and why?
what is your favorite book?
Also, at the end they will most likely ask if you have any questions about the school. Be sure to do your research and have specific questions prepared for each school. NEVER say that you don’t have any questions.
Remember, this interview isn’t just the interviewer questioning you, but a convo between both of you. Good luck!
