Interview Timing

So my interviewer called me this past Friday to schedule the interview, claiming that he had only recently received my name from the university. Assuming that he wasn’t lying to cover up his mistake in not calling sooner, WHAT am I supposed to make of that?

Why would the school give him my name just ten days before they inform me of their decision? I would assume they’ve already decided for or against me. Should this late interview make me more hopeful that I’m in or more confirmed in my deferral/no?

If they really wanted someone, would they pass the name along to the interviewer at their leisure, or would they give it immediately?

Or is there nothing to be understood from any of this convoluted junk? Am I reading too much in to this?

do a good interview in case you get deferred…

Just take the interview. If you refuse it’s like giving them a cold shoulder, and that might reflect badly, unless your an überkind.

Lovinglife, you wouldn’t happen to be from the Dallas area, would you? I had the same exact thing happen to me, a guy called me and said he was supposed to interview but luckily I had taken it upon myself to find a local interviewer and get an interview myself. Later on my interviewer told me the guy that was supposed to interview me just plain forgot. How unprofessional!

yeah i’m from coppell (also dallas area) and i just got my interview on tuesday and my interviewer told me he had to turn his report in by wednesday…i guess i got lucky, i was completely convinced that it wouldn’t happen for me

Yeah we probably had the same guy. Blah.

OMG, so frustrating They assigned an interview date like, THE WEEK BEFORE it was supposed to be, so, of course, having no prior warning, I had to go out of town and we couldn’t cancel plans. I mailed the guy back and he was like “no problem, we’ll set you up with an alternate date!” Then he sent me the same letter again w/ the same dates that I was out of town for. I replied w/ the same reply and he wrote me back saying,“oops, sorry, didn’t mean to send you that!” I never got another offer for an interview even though I was supposed to, and now it is too late. Apparently the usual interview person (who organizes them) didn’t do them this year as his son is now applying to Pton, and the new guy is a bit inept at this stuff. I hope the adcoms don’t think that I flat out refused an interview, b/c I really wanted one. Oh well.
