Interview?

My student submitted his app to WFU on Oct 15, regular decision and requested his interview within the 5 days required. Just a couple days later, he got an email indicating all interview slots were taken and he would not be granted one. This seems odd to me, given that reg decision apps aren’t due until Jan. 1. Does this mean they have already decided his application isn’t worth pursuing/spending their time on?

No, I don’t think it means that at all. My S25 applied in early September and there were only two open interview spots. We’re on the west coast, he had to have his interview at 6am!

I wouldn’t read a thing into it. Good luck!

AFAIK all it means is that all the interview slots are full.

It would be appropriate for him to email his AO and ask if any more interviews for RD applicants will open up at some point.

If not, it would also be appropriate for him to send an email to his AO, something along the lines of ‘this is what I would have told you in an interview…’, if that’s something he would comfortable doing.

Probably not. They may not have any interview slots available.

This is typically when they run out of interview slots at Wake. Your child should submit the optional video instead.

My daughter submitted Nov 14 regular decision and also was not granted an interview. She applied for the Presidential Scholarship for dance so she has already submitted a 12 minute video and answered 8 essay questions in total. Should she also submit the optional video? It seems like too much.

Yes.

Thanks! She did. When can she expect to hear whether she gets an audition or not?

I don’t know the timing of audition notification. Hopefully someone who does can chime in. Good luck!

@InquiringMom2 Yes, submit the additional video. I do not believe that the video sent to main admissions (via email as I recall) is seen by the scholarship adjudicators.

Notifications for scholarship audition/interview were sent in early March last spring. It included an option of staying on campus with a student host (a current scholarship recipient) on the weekend of the audition (March 26-28).

Merde!

@lollylolly I don’t recall how the video interview worked, but mine did that and was accepted. My understanding is that doing a live interview vs submitting video tape response to a prompt does not make a discernible difference in the admissions process.
P.S. I now just recalled that my student was advised to do the taped response since multiple people would likely be seeing the video for themselves vs. everyone reading the one set of impressions from the singular person who interviewed the student.
