A) Does it say anything about your strength as an applicant when you get one?

B) How much weight, if any, does it hold?

Are you referring to an on-campus interview with an adcom or an alumni interview? I’ll assume you’re talking about the latter since the former is reserved solely for people with “connections” to the University(legacies, sons/daughters of professors etc.). Alumni interviews are not given out in any preference; they are solely based on whether there are alumni in your area; getting an interview is not dependent on your transcript, SAT scores, ECs or anything else!

Alumni interviews do not really hold that much weight. Think of them more as an information session with a graduate. The interviews are more than anything a chance for you to find out more about Columbia. I think the alumni send a sheet back to the adcoms, but it’s not heavily considered(unless something strongly worded - for the worse - was sent). Just relax and enjoy the interview!

This is pretty bad. It’s not an info session. It’s not mostly a chance for you to find out more about CU. The tours, visiting classes, local info sessions w/ adcoms, etc. are for you to learn more about Columbia. If you want to get into Columbia, you should know a ton about CU by the time you apply and convey that through your app.

It’s mostly a chance for Columbia to find out something else about you that isn’t reflected on your paper application.

I haven’t been contacted for an interview yet. Does anyone know when interviews are over? I really want one because it can only help my application. Should I call the admin office or just wait around some more? Getting kind of nervous!

read the website before you “call the admin office”

Just a quick question- If the interview doesn’t hold much weight, Are the people being contacted for the interview totally random?

the answer to that question is yes, however the answer is independent of your previous assumption.

Thank you. We need more people on here to challenge the premises of some of these questions–particularly the ones that have been asked and answered 100 times.
