Interview

I have an interview at Yale in a couple of weeks…what should I expect?

Y’s onsite interview is pretty informal, conducted most likely by a summer intern who’s a rising Senior. You can glean some more info from this thread (although it mostly deals w/alumni interviews)

wow drurylane, you already submitted your application? this is freaking me out because i only just started working on it! :(

I’m guessing it’s an on campus interview  Don’t worry about it coffee - technically the supplement isn’t even out… (or is it?)

I have an interview on Wednesday (July 16) with a rising Yale senior. I am a rising senior in high school with the intention of applying to Yale in the fall. What kinds of questions should I expect? Will they be typical questions about my academics/extra-curriculars? My cousin had an interview with Brown a few years ago and told me that the entire interview was based on her knowledge of current events, and I’m afraid that I’ll be unprepared if this is the case.

a good interview is a conversation, not a quiz. Alums vary, but for on campus interviews they’ll most likely just have a chat with you, ask you about your interests, and any questions about yale you have or anything you’d like to discuss. For on campus interviews, you should just try to have an interesting conversation. Come with a few questions you have about yale, preferably not about specific departments unless your interviewer tells you he/she is familiar with that department. And be ready to share some stories about your interests and your life. But most importantly just let it be natural. You shouldn’t be intensely preparing for an interview past having some questions about yale.

Thanks for your input! I definitely have some questions about Yale that I would like to ask if given the opportunity. I guess I’m just nervous about being unprepared for certain questions.
