Interviewer

Hi, I have a quick question, I was wondering if anybody out there knew how to pronounce the last name of my EC: “Dr. Mark Milam”

i guess its not that big of a deal but i still want to get it right.

im not sure or anything but this is how i would pronounce it

“mill (mill like in windmill) am (am as in how you would say “ummmmm” when you;'re thinking”

How about if you open the conversation by telling Dr. Mark that you would like to be sure you’re pronouncing his name correctly and ask him how he pronounces it.

i thought of that too mootmom, but i still have to address him when i’m calling him to schedule an appointment

So listen to how he answers the phone: he may answer with his name if you call during work hours (I do that on my work phone). If you’re calling his home, you might say something like, “I’m an MIT applicant calling to schedule my interview. May I speak with Dr. Mark MY-lam, please? Am I pronouncing that correctly?”

It’s OK to not know how to pronounce someone’s name. Really, it is. :)

that’s good advice, thanks mootmom

the only place i have heard that name pronounced b4 is that of benjamin milam (my-Lamb) who was a prominent leader in the texas revolution…just my texas history comin back to haunt me
