Int'l transfer: what are my chances?

Hello.

I am an international student from Japan/Korea(I’m 1/2 each). I attended a Canadian secondary school (from grade 10 to 12) and graduated with an excellent grade (90% cm.avg. 95%+ in AP Calc, Physics, etc). I was then admitted to Honours Mathematics/Computer Science in the University of Waterloo, known as the MIT of the north. Everything seemed to work out well by then…

Unfortunately, computer science wasn’t my thing. I continued to fail my first-year core courses, and the failing grades got engraved on my transcript. On top of that, my total lack of circumstantial judgment caused me to delay taking any countermeasures. The idiocy continued until the end of 2nd year, and at last resulted in a forced withdrawal from the university.

Now I want to purse my original dream of being an architect. And apparently, I am not eligible to apply as freshman anymore. With the burdening university grades, I doubt I can go to any decent university that offers BArch. And I am also worried that they will only look at my university grades and immediately throw my application away in a trash can. I feel very depressed… because I know the univ. transcript doesn’t represent my real capability at all…

What should I do in this case to improve my chances to study in a decent architecture school in the U.S.?

Where should I apply? Should RISD, Syracuse, Pratt, RPI be my reaches?

Should I not even dream of applying to Cornell or USC?

Where do you think I stand amongst other applicants? How competitive am I?

Thank you so much for reading this.

Joseph

P.S. I took SAT practice test and scored perfect in math and around 650 on CR and writing,
totaling at around 2100.

P.S. I think I can manage to compile a good essay and a competitive portfolio…

go for the top-- It will probably all come down to the portfolio anyway.

Really…? That’s a relief…
by ‘top’ you mean colleges like Syracuse or Cincinnati?

well, those grades will weigh you down- and I am not sure how they will affect your admission to a university. It could be very hit or miss-- But with a good portfolio and essay you might still have an outside shot; that essay is probably going to be extremely important and if they are willing to take a chance, you might get in. I would apply to everything-- with the understanding that you may very well not be accepted.

thanks again Tzar, it really helped me.

want to transer either ucla or usc (music or buisness major)?
im in one of the best transfer community colleges in California. i was wondering if how could i easily tranfer to a university-
first choice - usc 2nd- ucla.
im not worried about financially though and im not really a very very smart student but very hardworking and focused in college.

im thinking of business or music major. either the two would work for me. my parents wants me to take business (which is good) but i love to sing(no instruments though) Im very passionate about my singing. what is the best way to transfer and how hard and how could it be possibly easy to get to a university. is there a minimum gpa???

if i push through a music major, am i required to play instruments or can i focus on my craft in singing. i would love to take business but heard it takes so long.
