Intro to Trader Joe's for Texans

For all of those spoiled people out there with TJ’s near them, we are finally going to join the club! Over the next few years TJs will be opening stores throughout Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio, with one just having opened in The Woodlands (only 50 minutes away from me), and one scheduled to open nearby in a few months. I’ve visited numerous times when traveling to other cities, but I could only bring back some products that are travel-hardy like mini dark chocolate peanut butter cups.

Now that I can finally try all of the products, including refrigerated and frozen products, I’d love to hear what your favorite items are. So excited!!!

“I’d love to hear what your favorite items are.”

here ya go my dear!

My favorites are their burgers and these weird potato lentil curly things… I forget what they’re called but they’re a great snack. And the chocolate!!! SO MUCH CHOCOLATE.

We just recently discovered Trader Joe’s ourselves. :)

oooooh…let me add my new fav: the raisin rosemary crisps…Dangerously YUMMY! Ate almost the whole box in one sitting…

My just graduated college D was a little bummed to hear that TJ’s is moving into her
college town–next semester. Her life would have been a little tastier if they’d done it
sooner. BUT! She’s thrilled that TJ’s is .3 miles from her new apartment!

There’s a whole Trader Joes thread around here somewhere…

A trip last week to the one 45 mins with me netted two new items I loved- TJ white bean hummus (very good) and their own gazpacho - just enough of a kick!!!

They have amazing garlic & herb goat cheese, mango passionfruit juice, fiber granola bars, pumpkin bread mix, brioche rolls, chocolate, gyoza, okay I can’t even list it all, everything in the store is good!

see post #2

The closest TJ’s we have is @30 minutes away so I always stock up when I go…and I never seem to get out of there for under $100!

I also love those raisin rosemary crisps…discovered them @ a year ago or so…very addictive!

You will find yourself trying new things each time you go! I actually bring a cooler with me, especially for hot summer days if I’m bringing home freezer & refrig items…

We live in the mid-cities so will be right between 2 TJs. One will open on Greenville in Dallas in early 2013 but last Friday the other opened in Ft. Worth. Made the mistake of not waiting for a week or so. There was no parking left in the lot so had to park on a residential street like many others. All shopping carts were in use so had to following a checked out customer and bum her cart. Inside were too many people with lines to all cash registers extending down the aisles blocking shoppers from the shelves :(

Anyway, I got my goodies including Raisin Almond Dark Chocolate, TJ Syrah, TJ whole bean dark roast coffee, Thai Lime & Chili cashews, and TJ Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Almost forgot: the box of Raisin Rosemary Crisps is already gone.

Xoxoxoxo trader joes

One of my favorite things about Trader Joe’s is sampling wines. It won’t break the bank, and you wont feel all that guilty about dumping it if it is not to your taste.

I am also a Raisin Rosemary Crisp fan/addict. Try them with goat cheese; more specifically the goat cheese medallions that come individually wrapped. One medallion with a handful of the crisps is an amazing snack. Just make sure to let the cheese come to room temperature. Okay so now I know where I am grocery shopping tomorrow!

We just got one up here in denver. However, there are none in my area, thus its not worth it to drive so far to get to it.

Trader Joe’s within walking distance of my house! Love them. The friendliest and most genuine staff, and I’m usually not one to make chit chat.

OP, our nearby Borders was in a grocery anchored shopping center, so no TJ’s for us. :frowning: We have almost finished the yummy chocolate treats that we bought when we picked D up from college.

Well you should buy a bottle of 2 buck chuck! Can’t get that at CT trader joe’s but I use to buy it when I was young, poor and living in CA!
My go to items are frozen oatmeal, chocolate, and tri tip steaks. This cut is popular in CA but impossible to get back East. So happy that my TJ’s has the steaks as they are so yummy. Love their trail mix also and their ice cream section and they have great breads. I am not a big frozen food eater but many friends love their dinners.

Great selection of cheeses and other appys,

I am not a big frozen food person either but we stock up on Orange Chicken whenever we go.

Masala burgers, eaten without a bun/condiments.

Everyone loves Trader Joe’s. It’'s another fine thing to originate in California and spread elsewhere.

I really like their Strawberry Kefir. It tastes better than the stuff from mainstream supermarkets and costs a about dollar per quart less.
