With HS Seniors and their families deciding between several college offers, we have created the new “Compare College Offers” forum to help out. Post your offers here and get valuable input from the CC community. You can either upload the offer (but make sure to remove all personal data like name, email, or address) or just create a traditional post referencing the content of the offers.
The CC community is here to help you make the best decision for you!
And can there be a template (like in the Chance Me threads) so posters include relevant, and at least basic, information? Rather than simply “Should I choose between X and Y?” with no additional context. I’m seeing many of these lately.
@lkg4answers, @DadOfJerseyGirl, what I was hoping to see is people posting their offers or the content of their offers, something like I was accepted at school x with a financial aid package of xx vs. this school that is offering this financial aid package/no financial aid package. Does this make sense?
However, if you think it’s better to create a template I’m totally OK with the suggestion. I agree it is a bit confusing now with most of these posts ending up in the Search & Selection.
It is just my personal opinion, but I’m not sure money is always the driving force in the “help me decide” threads. Often they want a comparison of the school culture, safety, academic support, how the different colleges/majors compare at the different schools, opportunities available while in college as well as potential for internships/jobs.
If you were to develop a template, I would start with
State of residence or international. This helps determine in-state vs OOS costs.
Major student was accepted into at each college
Career interests or thoughts about what they might want to do after college (if known)
Tuition at each campus vs total COA at each campus
Have you visited any of the campuses?
I’m sure there is a lot more that can be added in a template such as whether you are aware of how much you can take out in student loans and where you expect to get the rest of the money, but I’ll leave the wording of those items to others.
