Investment banking to law school?

Hi all,

Thanks for viewing my post. I am currently a senior at HYPS, and have just signed on the dotted line with a top investment bank (e.g., GS, MS, Lehman). I’ll be an analyst for the next two yrs, but would eventually like to complete a JD/MBA at Columbia, Harvard, Penn, or Stanford. I am not worried about b-school admission, but law school has me concerned. My grades here (i.e., at HYPS) aren’t the best–a 3.65 or so (which should stay pretty steady through the end of the yr). I transferred to HYPS from a top-twenty school after my sophomore year; I had a 3.97 at my previous institution. My aggregate GPA, thus, will probably be 3.83 or so upon graduation. I have taken the LSAT–scored 175. Haven’t been all that active in terms of extracurriculars, but haven’t been a slouch either. Probably fall somewhere in the middle on the active scale. What are my chances? Is there anything I should do to increase them–either over the next semester, or the next two years? How do law schools view such monetary pursuits as investment banking? Thanks for yr time.

Clearly your GPA and LSAT put you in the mix. What is it that really concerns you?

Your LSAT and GPA are fine. You’ll easily land in some T14, and have a very good chance at the top 6 (above a 70% for all but Stanford and Yale). Job experience at a prestigious financial firm would only help your application.
