I had braces as a teen but some issues just were never fixed and my mouth changed over the years.

I was given 15 trays and I’m on tray 2. Some days I think I might pull my hair out other times. I know it’s working, but I feel like a teenager again with the wax on the sore points. I’m using it as an excuse to lose some weight and stop the mindless snacking.

If you’ve gotten it are you happy with your results?

Our dentist suggested Invisalign for our college soph. son. He started in Aug.–we’ll see how he looks when he gets home for Thanksgiving. Not being able to snack is a lifestyle change/minor frustration for him (he is thin and likes to snack. . .) He never had braces, and, considering his age, didn’t want to get them now. I’m tempted to get invisalign myself–my bottom teeth have gotten really crooked again, though I did have braces as a teenager.

Did it in 2001 and was/am thrilled w results. Never had orthodontia as a child as we couldn’t afford it. I still wear clear retainers my othordontist made for me to bed every night.

I had braces (didn’t wear my retainer as I should) and got Invisalign several years ago. I never needed wax. If anything poked me I just used some nail scissors and trimmed the rough spot.

My ex and older D have them and love them. They have never needed wax and indeed have rarely even been in discomfort. My ex loves that as a horn player, he can remove them and play, whereas with traditional braces, that could be painful. Both say it helps keep snacking at bay but they both also forget to put them back in after meals sometimes and it makes his wife crazy to see them on the counter.

H and I will probably get them for our D. Sometimes there’s a coupon for 1/2 off on Groupon-I think there was one in our area this weekend.

As more teeth move into position there will be less discomfort from the pressure. The parts that poke can be trimmed carefully with scissors, nail clipper, or a fine nail file.

I had invisalign and really liked my results. However, I found out after I started that if you are prone to canker sores, the trays will really irritate the tissue. Turns out invisalign is contraindicated for people like me.

I told my ortho he was lucky I was a dentist so I could adjust my own trays every 2 weeks or I would have been in daily for them to smooth and trim the edges. I had 19 sets of trays, then went into spring-loaded retainers for 6 months to refine things because I was having continual cankers with no relief.

My teeth were sore for the first month or so, but my lower front teeth were sore the entire time. I started cutting fruits because I couldn’t bite and still maintain that habit even though my teeth are fine.

I’m on tray 20 of 38. The second tray was the worst, by far. I spent a lot of time online to learn that, as others have mentioned, trimming / filing is fine if they’re uncomfortable. I have no regrets.

I can’t believe none of you needed wax! My tongue was so cut up and sore from the trays sticking out on the inside I’d have had to completely cut them up to fix it. I get my next trays Wednesday. There is no winning, my teeth have shifted too much now to even make it comfortable to not wear them, plus those darn buttons make me feel like I have spikes on my teeth.

Not to mention the dry mouth and my new speech impediment. I can’t not think about the fact that they’re in my mouth all the time. I’m hoping I just start getting more used to it. Thank goodness there are only 13 trays left!

Maybe pop some ibuprofen to help you forget about the soreness? I have never heard of anyone having so much trouble. Maybe there are some dental forums you could check out?

I think you should talk to your orthodontist. That doesn’t sound like anything my D or my ex had had to deal with. My D’s teeth were REALLY REALLY out of line so while she was sore from the teeth shifting at first, her mouth was never cut up. It almost seems as though your trays don’t even fit right.

My orthodontist told me to use a nail clipper and emery board to clip the spots that were bothering me. I remember some that had more annoying spots than others. I also have a very sensitive mouth.

I was fortunate to not have buttons, however I’ve heard they are difficult. I remember needing to pop an advil every 3.5 hours the first few days of each new tray. I kept a bottle on my desk, as I would be in agony if I didn’t take one on that schedule.

I did Invisalign for 9 months and then the Vivera retainer full time for a year. I now use the retainer just at night. In the beginning I remember being pretty sore, I work as a teacher so after talking all day it was pretty uncomfortable. After the initial first trays it wasn’t bad although some trays were more uncomfortable than others. The retainer is a thicker material and much more comfortable.
