iOS6 problems. Help O' CC geniuses

The fixes I’ve found on the web to my iphone problem haven’t worked, so I naturally turn to the Apple geniuses here on cc.

I updated to iOS6 on my iphone 4s. I had to change my yahoo password and now cannot get the change to work on my phone to access my email on my phone. I try to enter my new password and get the “server unavailable” message constantly. I know it is not available, and this has apparently been a frequent problem that has been written about a lot on the web.

Any remedies? If you have a fix, please explain it in simple terms as I am not good at this stuff. I would prefer not to have to delete and reinstall it, if I can help it…
Thanks in advance everyone.

Are you changing your password through the browser or through"settings"?

I’ve changed it on line. On the phone I am going through “settings”> mail>yahoo. Is there another way?
It was popping up with a screen message and I tried doing it there too. Fail.

I am trying again. It is now hung up on teh “verifying” screen. Now says mail server is “null”

Have you tried deleting the email account from the phone and then reinstalling with the new password? That fixed a problem I had awhile ago. I have not upgraded to iOS6 yet, however.

As I said in the OP, I was hoping to find an alternative solution than to delete and reinstall, as I risk losing the contacts/calendar/reminders etc that are connected to that account.

Do you back up and synchronize your phone to a computer with itunes? Do this first, then delete email account, reboot phone, reinstall email account, then synchronize with the computer again and all should be there.

If you don’t want to do that, try turning off phone wireless, then turn off iphone, next turn off wireless modem you are using. Then reverse everything turning back on. That reboots the entire system.

Are your contacts etc backed up on iCloud?
Whenever I am having issues i make sure all the apps are closed, do a hard reset & reset network settings.
I’ve also had to delete some apps occasionally and reinstall.

Also sometimes changing the date a year, restarting and changing it back helps.

Just got home. Thanks everyone. Will look into these. THey shold be backed up onteh cloud, but will double ck before deleting anything.

Well, I’ll be. My DH told me to be patient and it would fix itself. He was right :)

I kept entering the new PW when the request continuously came on my phone, and I guess finally Yahoo listened!

I had the same issue- it was a Yahoo server issue.
If it happens again you can add your Yahoo email acct through Exchange- it then works via a different server.

Thanks. I tried setting another account up through “other” and then pop (or something like that) but it too failed.

I have another problem that I’m hoping that someone can help with. Downloaded iOS6 and now the “Autofill” feature on my phone has gone wacky! Because of the deeply embedded integration with Facebook now, it’s seized control and insists that my e-mail address is something to do with Facebook! I’ve tried editing my info in Contacts, and although it shows my real email address there, it also shows the sham FB one and will NOT let me edit that or eliminate that. HELP, please.

Did you go into Facebook and change your email address? A few weeks ago Facebook assigned everyone a Facebook email address and that superseded your others unless you went into your setting and removed it. Go to account information and delete that one and select your regular email account as primary.

With all the buggy things I’ve been reading about, I am holding off the iOS6 upgrade.

My DH hasn’t done the iOS upgrade yet either. I guess I am the test in the family.
