A sealed case is more aesthetically pleasing. It also limits user tinkering of the inside of the phone, which is something Apple seems to prefer.

That explains it.
I will stick with the Samsung aesthetics.

Maybe it means designed by Apple in California by Chinese and Indians.

I know you’re trying to be funny but that’s kind of insulting. Not to Apple but to Americans.

I highly recommend [url=<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube]this Apple short movie/url about apps. It’s less a commercial than a tribute to how people are changing the world and improving lives by developing apps.

Each is a little story, from the rower who uses her iphone to adjust the angle of her prosthetic feet to a nurse traveling around his area in Kenya to an app to keep native American languages alive to an app that enabled a non-verbal child to say “Hi, mom. I love you.”

Really lovely.

I read some speculation on why the MacBook Pros weren’t updated.

Intel is releasing mobile CPUs with Iris Pro graphics in about a month. Iris Pro graphics are a nice upgrade from the lower Haswell chips. So the MBPs may get better integrated graphics.

I had a mophie case for my iphone4, it was great at protection and not any bulkier than regular protective cases ( as opposed to decorative)
However, I gave it to my younger D, cause when she would go out in the woods on the weekend, she would forget to check in & use the excuse " her battery died".

Haven’t felt the need for a battery case for the iphone5. But since I just had to replace it after it flew out of my breast pocket onto the sidewalk, I am in the market for a protective case. The Mophie is similar in price & bulk to otterbox et.al., so I might as well get an extra battery too!

iPods/iPhones and for some time now MacBooks haven’t had battery access.
However my iphone has lasted years longer than my Blackberry that did have a removeable battery so to me it is a non issue. I’d rather have it working than be trying to find replacement battery’s when they stop being rechargeable.

Unfortunately, considering my propensity to knocking my coffee into my laptop keyboard, it would be nice if they still made the keyboard easily swappable, but these days I spend more time on my iPad with the Bluetooth keyboard.

Not only would that add expense, notebook manufacturers…including Apple probably don’t want to provide accommodations on account of accidents/damages caused by what they’d consider enduser carelessness.

Spilling one’s drink counts as one such example and if they know/conclude that’s the cause of damage to the keyboard/notebook, they’ll almost always void the warranty…including the extended one unless it specified such enduser inflicted damages due to carelessness are covered.

If one is even able to find such extra coverage…they tend to cost a pretty premium.

One way some get around that is to use the coverage from their home/apartment renter’s insurance which may not have such restrictive conditions on coverage.

I usually use external keyboards with my laptops unless I’m remote.

In addition to Mophie cases, you can also buy small, rectangular battery packs in different amounts of power. The advantage to these is that they have multiple port types and USB charging. Carrying around an extra battery means that you can’t use that battery to charge other devices other than devices that use the same battery. I don’t have one of these external chargers but I have considered getting one.

Since I am on the go so often for several years, it has actually been somewhat of an adjustment to go back to a full-sized desktop keyboard. I am much more comfortable on the notebook keyboards included on notebooks like the 15" MBP or a similarly sized PC notebook.

Incidentally, one client asked if I could clean off and somehow get his notebook working again after he spilled most of his 20 oz soft drink onto the keyboard and other parts.

Upon looking at it, I had the unfortunate duty to inform him it was a total loss due to the motherboard being completely shorting out not only from the liquid, but also the acidity of the sweeteners/ingredients.

I once had a bowl of soup on my desk that tipped over and went over a good chunk of my desk. I normally mount laptops on thread spools (for cooling and to get the height a bit higher) and use an external keyboard and mouse. The keyboard was trashed but that was cheap to replace.

If you’re accident-prone, then getting cheap hardware might be a wise thing to do.

I have external keyboards at the places where I typically work so that I don’t have to carry them around. I also like the Apple external trackpad.

Wonder if that’s the reason many corporations are using HP desktops/notebooks with their employees.

Working on pavilion notebooks make taking apart Imacs look dimly simple in comparison and I’ve been disturbed at the high rate of failure of motherboard failures over the last several years.

Just swapped another HP motherboard out for a gigabyte micro-atx board and voila…it works again.

I stopped buying HP products after 2005. They went from decent to awful in about two years. My corporate system is a very nice Dell system. Core-i5 Ivy Bridge with 8 GB of RAM and ports for up to three monitors.

I think that we stopped buying HP systems at the office many years ago.

The keyboard used to be easily swappable- and could be gotten cheaply from places like ifixit without even having to use Applecare. I wouldnt even bother taking it in to the genius bar, since it was fairly easy to open it up, although it was fairly tedious to hook up all the connections.

I have had very good luck with my Applecare for my iphones- last winter I got a replacement phone cheaply from Apple when it got wet & just a week or so ago, I got a brandnew iphone 5 for $50 when I completely shattered the touchscreen. I apparently had registered for Applecare+ which in retrospect was a very good idea!
:o

I’m sure that I could swap the keyboard out on my 2008 MacBook Pro. I’m not so sure on the new models though. I have a local Apple Store so I’d just let them do it.

I got my iPhone 5 last September. I don’t use a case. No scratches, nicks, water or other damage to the phone. I think that most of the credit goes to my Scott E Vest which has a dedicated iPhone pocket.
