Iowa vs. Minnesota

University of Iowa vs. University of Minnesota- Twin Cities? Any opinions or thoughts?

Both good schools. What would you major in? Can you afford both?

Marginally better cultural life in the Twin Cities because of the larger population base.

Marginally warmer winter weather in Iowa City because it is that much further south.

Significantly larger airport in St. Paul than in Cedar Rapids, but travel time from wherever you live to the airport might be no different.

Minnesota has consistently been the higher ranking academic school:

In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for North American universities only, Minnesota rose from #52 for the '10-'11 ranking to #46 in the '14-'15 ranking. Iowa fell from #132 in the '10-'11 ranking to #175 in the '14-'15 ranking.

UIowa is known for its writing program.

UMinny seems well-regarded for ChemE.

Without knowing potential majors or goals, there’s not much more to add.

From a personal point of view, the UM location is better and the campus much more beautiful. It also has more prestige?

Both I can afford and my major is Speech Patholgy and Audiology with a Pre-Ocupational Therapy focus.

I wouldn’t say the Minneapolis is “marginally” better than Iowa city. It’s way better. Better attractions. Better night life. Better culture. Better sports. And Minnesota’s academics are much better
