Is an iPad 2 worth buying for $299? I’ve never had a tablet and would use it for web surfing, reading books, music and photos. The mini and air are also interesting, just more money and I’m not sure if it is worth spending more. Opinions? Is it better to have an older iPad or a newer some other brand tablet?

I love my iPad2 and feel that it does everything I need. I am a heavy user and am able to travel with it on business and leave the laptop behind.

Agree with MOWC. It is practically a "can’t live without it "item in my life. I have the iPad 2 -have had it for over 2 years - and don’t feel it is outdated at all.

Get yourself a nice case - maybe one with a built in keyboard - you’ll have a great product. Do you have an iPhone or other apple product so that you are already familiar with that line???

I have an iPod touch and love it- but reading glasses are needed since it’s so small.

If you get that iPad you will be like a kid in a candy store - who can SEE the candy!!! Seems like a good price to me. Is there warranty with it ??

I love, love, love my iPad 2, but confess to spending way too much time on it :).

i love my iPad II but I’m worried that the next update won’t work well with it (that’s what someone told me, maybe that’s crazy…
)

I came thisclose to getting an iPad Air last week when I thought my iPad II was broken. The iPad Air is pretty cool and you can get this really nice keyboard that is backlit (great for late night use and needing a lamp on).

Usual one year warranty. 90 days tech support. Since there is frequently something new coming out I might rather have the cost savings for now and see how I like it.

Use my iPad2 a lot. Like others have mentioned, I take it with me when I travel. Much lighter than my laptop, of course. My laptop has become my desktop. :-*

I put off buying an ipad until the retina display came out ( 3rd version) & bought it new.
Retina, IMO, makes a huge difference.

I have one and it is a nice to have but not a must have item for me, since it does not do Excel and my other crazy software I need for work. I keep my iPad in a rubberized leather pouch and take it out to use.

I have an ipad2 and the new ios7 software really brightened up the image. I love it. Bought a logitech keyboard that snaps on the front and now it is easy to type, too. I don’t miss not having the retina display.

I love my iPad II. In fact, it was my first Apple product that I purchased. Now I have an iPhone 4s and a MacBook Pro. All based on the fact that I loved the iPad that much! I carry my iPad around with me all the time. And now that I have a MacBook, my PC laptop has also “become a desktop” as it sits on my desk hooked to an external monitor. There are still things I want Windows for…

I went from an ipad 1 to a mini. It took some adjusting because the display is smaller but I love its portability. I used to love my iphone but now I can’t live without my ipad mini.

I just bought a iPad mini 3 days ago. I have a Mac book air that I use for work and everything else. I do not own an iPhone. For me, they don’t fit in my pocket like my little Alcatel and since I use my laptop so much, I only needed it for calls and texting. I tried to love the iPhone or an iPod but they are just too small. The mini is great. I am still in learn mode but size wise it is small enough but big enough. BTW, micro center has them for $279.

The microcenter web site has a wifi ipad mini for $379, but instore only & none in wa.
Boo.
