So H and the kids got me an IPAD. D has loaded lots of silly games on it (she loves to play on these things), and a couple of book sites (KOBO and iBooks). I would like to find some other Apps that might be useful to me. In the house, we have wireless, so going online is not a problem.

What kinds of things have people had success using? Suggestions welcome :)

I would also get the Kindle app and what ever newspapers you like to read. ( local newstations also have free apps)
You can also get Hulu & Netflix.

I didn’t realize that there was more than one. I use the app that provides portfolio and news information. It also allows you to enter trades on the iPad. Fidelity and Etrade also provide this access. One thing that I’ve noticed is that it’s faster to get through a trade on the iPad than it is through a web browser.

I just did a search- you are right that there is only one for the ipad but there is two for the ipod.
Guess I will get the istockmanager, which is for both.

I use this program to load documents that I might want to refer to from my computer to my iPad and vice versa . Pdfs, word and excel docs, maps, photos, magazine articles I want to read later–whatever…

Plus I think that every iPad should have a good sudoku and backgammon game on it. I like mine, although I could be tempted with ones you think are better. Games and programs that are iPad specific are full screen and can be very pleasing to the eye.

I also have Pandora on my iPad–and Netflix.

I have an app called Friendly for Facebook–which has a neat feature which makes it easy to download photos that I see on FB.

Heck, I bought an application that was totally in Japanese and downloaded something for $.99 (a woodblock print). I was hoping that by pressing likely looking buttons, I would be able to download an image of the print. No luck yet–I may have to find a Japanese person to help me…

Basically, my iPad is fitted out to entertain me! Not that interested in productivity…

This just made me realize I probably touched my iPad fewer than 5 times in 2011. Could be because there is only so much time one can waste on checking scores, playing Gyrotate, Sudoku, or WFF! And helping one waste time is exactly what the iPad does best.

That PDF link was really helpful. I looked for a way to do that and the only way that I found to do it was mailing it to myself in GMail as iPad mail application would allow you to view PDFs but only up to a certain size. I’ve had iBooks installed for quite some time but I didn’t realize that you could load it up with your own PDF files. I sent the link to my son as he gets some of his homeworks in PDF format and likes to have documents on his iPod Touch for reference. I do hope that iBooks runs on the iPhone and iPod Touch. This means that the iPad can store technical reference manuals for me.

:)
Yes ibooks runs on the ipod touch- that is what I have. As long as you have the 2nd gen ipod touch, it doesn’t run on the 1st gen, cause that can’t run the latest system software. However, my H’s 1st gen ipod touch works with the thing that plugs into the cigarette lighter & mine doesn’t.
