how satisfied are you with Apple’s offer to give away free bumpers for the iPhone and how badly do you think this little “crisis” damages their reputation?

I still wonder how much of a problem it really was. PC World tried to replicate the “grip of death” and they had a difficult time. They found that when the palm was slightly sweaty and the hand was covering a certain section on the side, they experienced a small drop in reception.

This reminds me of the situation with the Wii. How many straps really did break, and how many cases were just people who were too cool to use the wrist strap?

Yeah I noticed that Steve Jobs mentioned that they really didn’t get too many complaints about the antenna to AppleCare in the first place.

I have the iPhone 4 and didn’t notice any problems with the antenna. I DID buy a bumper- for $29. What a rip. I thought it would be like my old iPhone cases and have a back, but this thing is literally just a rim around the edge. It’s cool looking, but $29???
To me, the bigger problem is that yahoo email (bellsouth in my case) won’t “push” which everyone is complaining about. I still love the iPhone 4, though.

First I have to get my hands on an iPhone 4 to even see if that is an issue. Apple will be fine. iPhones still sell out like hotcakes. DD needs a new phone, but &^%@ Appleheads scoop up every last one, and neither DD nor I are inclined to spend 3 hours waiting in line. We’ll wait until the market saturates a bit.

Based on Apple’s response to this as well as to issues with other iPhones - i.e. their reluctance to admit any kind of fault or be at all helpful to disseminate information about their bugs, i.e. the ‘sweep it under the carpet’ mentality, it might hurt Apple’s rep a bit - at least I’m not very impressed with how they handle issues with their products (I have an iPhone 3). I think they should be more ‘open’ and forthright than they are and just admit their faults and offer helpful info to correct them like many other companies do rather than trying to just hush it.

I am more upset with the version 4.0 software update. I downloaded the new version and not my phone is very slow and my calendar lost some appointments. I have heard several people complaining about the newer software on the older phones.

I have a 3G, and I had no luck trying to download 4.o…probably well off!

It’s all very simple – Droid!

MOWC: You can now get a refund on your $29.

I have last year’s model, and still haven’t updated to the new system. One friend tells me it eats up her battery faster, while another said her battery is lasting longer.

I had a Verizon phone before this one, and its battery life was dreadful. The Verizon salesperson showed me how to hold the phone to make sure I wasn’t touching the antenna while making calls. I also saw a link to a youtube video where someone demonstrated the same signal loss on a Droid phone. So I hear where Jobs is coming from when he says that other phones have issues.

Will this hurt Apple? The phones are still selling, and “antennagate” has meant that the iPhone has been on the news a lot lately. Some people argue that no publicity is bad publicity.

This kind of attitude didn’t help Toyota…

Then again, nobody is dying here.

^^Driver error in most of the Toyota accidents.

Apparently someone wanted Apple’s stock to go down really badly…

^^ I wonder if they were able to get through to their stockbroker to dump some of the stock - or if the call was dropped?

The Iphone could lose 50% of all calls and Apple fans would still report being happy.

All I know is that this disaster forced Apple to admit to have tricked its customers in reporting fake bars. There is now hope that Apple and ATT finally acknowledge a slew of connection problems for people who spend time along the US southern border. Fwiw, the recommended solution of ATT was to download the Version 4 … a solution that only made things a LOT worse. Most IPhone that rely on the ATT system have been unable to send messages when roaming. The Apple/ATT team of liars is saying it is a roaming partner issue. Interestingly enough, the IPhone sold by Telcel (Mexican partner) do not exhibit any of the problems.

What has become obvious is that the US version of the Iphone has been crippled by ATT and that this will not get any better until the regulators find a way to stop monopolies in the cellular business. It is nothing but a disgrace to have a phone that does not allow the owner to choose his or her carrier … when outside the country.

A shameful bunch!

My son has the phone and hasn’t had a problem that I have heard about. Question: does he have to do something to get the free bumper or will they just mail one to the address they mailed the phone? Anyone know?

This is the biggest crap I’ve seen from a company in a while.

“Tell you what, guys! We’ll send you a free “bumper” to put around your phone!”

Are you kidding me?

Trust me - if this is “the biggest crap” you’ve seen from a company in a while, this means Apple is a great company! (Disclosure: I’m not an Applehead, I’m a PC, and I never owned Apple stock. :))

I’ve had no issues with my iPhone 4 at all. No issues with the update. But my SIL and I can be in the same room next to each other and I’ll have 4 bars and she’ll have none - go figure. I’m a PC but I LOVE LOVE my iPhone.
