If there has already been a thread on this apologies - I did a quick search and didn’t see one.
Currently have a 6 and while it works fine overall, storage is an issue - I can basically keep or add NOTHING to it.
Costco actually has a good deal this month - with the 8 or 8+ you get your phone trade in (the other day they valued mine at $95), a $100 credit on a bill in the next couple of cycles and a free power pack (extra car charger, home charger, etc.)
I didn’t really consider the 8+ but after looking at it is SEEMS to not be that much larger (not like the 6+ my H has which seems HUGE) and the 8+ has the better camera. The only drawback I see is that sometimes I hold my phone when I run (habit) but I’ve been using a waistband for my phone lately and I think I can make that a habit instead. I never put my phone in my pocket and I don’t carry a mini purse.
Any pros/cons 8 vs. 8+ for you??? The 10 or X is cool but I’m not wanting to spend the extra $$$ for that version.
I just moved up to the 8+ from the 7S. I was part of a group that was upgrading to the new phones and I inadvertently received the + instead of the smaller one. I am VERY happy with it. My hands are not large and I had definite concerns but I don’t even think of the size any more. I browse a lot on it and the larger screen makes it easier. I would make the same choice again without hesitation.
I got the 8+. The first one I got was a lemon, and it took me almost two weeks to convince Apple to send me a new one (I wasted SO much time at the Apple store and on the phone!). My new one is working well. I like it!
No doubt my poor eye sight would appreciate the larger screen, but I’m also have always been “not a fan” of the other “+” phones that seemed so large. This one seemed “larger” but not “large”!!!
I got the 7 and now wish I had sprung for the plus. I did get extra storage so I think I have 128g so I won’t have to upgrade because I ran out of storage. The 8+ doesn’t seem that big and the better camera plus water resistant are big pluses for me.
I have a large size bandi belt (and the regular sizej, it holds the plus and is not any different in comfort than the smaller size belt.
With my aging eyes, I benefit greatly from having a larger screen. I don’t have a plus phone. My X has a similar sized screen to a pus. I like it a lot.
I fussed about going from a 5C to the small size 7. It took me a while to get used to the size, but turned out to be perfect for me. Somehow my boys talked me into the X for Christmas. “oh Mom, it’s not that much bigger than your little 7”. It is not that much bigger, but it is bigger and it is heavier. I think H will be getting this phone and I will take my other one back. (I know this thread is about the 8, but my point is a little extra size and a little extra weight can make a difference and make it harder to hold in one hand or type with one thumb)
If you are into cameras I would get the one that has the “portrait” option. It keeps the subject crisp and blurs the surrounding area. Love that!
There are a lot of BOGO deals going on with the carriers. I’d check into those too. You can get a shoulder strap for the 8+ for running.
One important consideration is whether the 8 or 8+ support all of your carrier’s frequency bands. The 8/8+ does not support band 71 (T-mobile) , which is critical for that carrier for national coverage. It does support band 12, which helps in-building coverage. For the others it isn’t as important, but AT&T has added a more spectrum recently that the 8/8+ does not recognize.
I’d go with the 8+ over the 8 as long as you can fit it in your pocket or purse comfortably. Better camera and larger screen. Personally I’m waiting for next year’s phones to upgrade, supposedly Apple will introduce even larger screens (6.2")
