I recently got a new iPhone. I would like to use my old iPhone (iPhone 4) as an iPod only. I just tried to sync it to get some new songs I have purchased. It says I don’t have enough memory to add any more music. How would I delete everything else on the phone in order to free up more memory for the ipod app?

ETA that I need very explicit instructions because I’m a techno idiot. And I can’t understate that.

Push down the main button on the front of the iPod and the apps will all jiggle. Start deleting them. And/or go into settings and applications (not sure what it is called) and see what the space hogs are and delete them.

Thanks. Something’s wrong with my main button. ALmost every time I hold it down, it gives me this
“Voice Control” screen. Every once in a while I can get the icons to wiggle, but no x on them to delete them. I went online and googled this, and it said to go to settings-general-usage-storage. But I have no “storage” link as described. I guess there’s just something wrong with the whole phone. The main button problem was why I upgraded to a new phone to begin with. I sometimes had to push the button 5 or more times before it would open up the phone from a black screen, so clearly it already had problems. :(

Don’t go the button route. With your finger, touch one of the app icons on your phone and hold for a couple seconds - all the icons should start to wiggle - then you can manually delete any you want to.

The ones in the first page may not have the little x. There are some apps (from Apple I think) that you can’t delete. But all the apps/games, etc. that you uploaded should have the little x in the corner and you should be able to delete them. (I’m not too technical either, but this works for me)

You cant delete whole folders at a time.
One of the fastest ways to delete files would be through itunes if you have a mac.
I also use a couple programs on my mac that will clean up old cache & cookie files on the ios devices.
