Just scored one at the apple store, My 5s phone was dying literally. I need gradchildren to send animojis. My adult D was mildly amused. FaceId works as well as they said. I don’t need bells and whistles but I keep my phone for a long time. When I buy a new phone, I try to get most advanced. I ddn’t want a big phone. X has a big screen in a small phone. Still a bit big to may taste but the big screen was easy on my aging eyes.
Jealous @Iglooo. My phone was dying last year so I got the 7. Really wish I had purchased the plus. The X would be perfect.
Sorry @deb922, if it’s any consolation, I suffered(?) through with 5s.
This phone sounds great…but sorry…it’s a little too big for my tastes. I’m also hoping they continue to have a smaller model for folks like me who prefer that…and something less than $1000.
I might consider an 8, but no need for the 10. First, however, I want them to fix the gazillion issues with the ios11!! That’s my priority.
I have the 10 ordered. Jealous that you got yours already. I think it is a good idea to get the most advanced model when upgrading a phone. I have a 6 and just had to replace the battery 2 weeks ago, but now it’s working great, even with the new IOS. My phone is a very important part of my work and personal life, and I don’t have that much of a problem spending a couple of hundred dollars more for the top model. I’ve had my 6 for 3 years. Normally I have a phone for 2 years.
@thumper1 What do you have now? Unless you can keep 4, 5 or SE, it’s not getting smaller. X is as small as 6,7,8 not plus. My biggest gripe is with the round edge, it’s slippery in my hand. I have to go out and get a case. I didn’t have any trouble without a case previously.
Congrats!
I’ll buy a new phone when the one I have now stops working well. Since there is a new iPhone model every year, when that happens I’ll get the newest.
Good plan, Emily! I don’t feel bad about splurging $1K on the phone since I kept my old phone for four years. I figure I come out even as if II upgraded every two years.
I used to do a lot with my iPhone, but since I got an iPad a couple years ago, now I just use my phone as a phone. Crazy talk, right? So instead of going for the newest and best (and most expensive) now I get the cheap older models.
A couple battery tips as an fyi: in general you want to keep the battery in the 20-80% range. For example if you tend to charge overnight, if your battery is at 85%, don’t charge it. Try not to let it drop below 20%. Also use a slower 1A charger when you can instead of the faster 2A charger, as slower charging is gentler on the battery. If your battery tends to drain fast you can check to see which app is consuming the most in Settings - if email is high then make sure it’s set to pull rather than push.
I also purchased an iPhone X, but since my internet is so slow, I’m still restoring from iCloud. My children are already bracing themselves for the Animoji tsunami coming their way.
Have you seen Animoji Karaoke? Some of them are hilarious! Here’s a few to get you started:

I hope my mom doesn’t get this new phone. She already inundates me with gifs on every text message she sends.
I hate as I call them “phablets”. I have an iPhone 6 and I never want anything bigger.
All I want in my iPhone is that it fits into the back pocket of my jeans.
Check, check. It’s not bigger than 6, it easily fits in the back pocket with a screen as big as a plus. That’s the best part; a big screen on a small phone.
I just picked up 2 today, one for D1 and one for me. D2 got the 8 Plus. I used my Mac for back up, so it only took 5 min rather than 4 hours. I had 2 pre-ordered, but then saw some stores in NYC had them in stock so I bought them online and picked them up in a store. The trick is to check online early in the morning (after 5am). The phone is very nice. I am happy.
I’m glad so many are finding the phone. My son got up at 3:00 a.m. To order the phone. He was leaving early the next morning for plane for a family function. Otherwise, I’m sure he would have been in line. He’s on a 2-year plan for an upgrade. I’m embarrassed to say I don’t know if I’m on such a plan.
Oldfort, I think your a wonderful mom to battle the lines at the Apple Store.
I love the facial recognition and privacy setting for text messages. The way it works is the messages won’t show up until you are the one who is looking at the phone.
