Iphoto--->>Photo

I have upgraded my system software to 10.10.4. It is an older macbook pro and I would like to eliminate some files, but my internet is also slow, so I dont necessarily want to store all photos in the cloud.
What do I need to double check before I delete iphoto?
I am so nearsighted( which is why I prefer my ipad, since it can be right under my nose), and I wanted to see if anyone had a dummies explanation, before I spent more time investigating.

If I remember right, I originally did not sync upon install, because of the slowness to access icloud.
Any help appreciated.

Open the Pictures folder. (It’s likely in the sidebar of any Finder window.) If you’ve shifted your photo library to the Photos app, you’ll see two files, one Photos Library and the other iPhoto Library. You can delete the iPhoto Library file. BTW, this saved me 35GB. Again, this depends entirely on you having shifted to Photos from iPhoto and seeing Photos Library in the Pictures folder.
