Ipod OR Zune?

Which do you think is the better of the two? Why?

Thanks! I’m trying to decide which one to get.

well you may have less trouble holding onto your zune, my younger D is the only one who still has her original ipod-and she attends an “inner city” high school.
Ive had my ipod stolen, my H had his stolen ( both out of my car)
my older daughter had hers stolen out of her coat pocket when she was at a coffee shop.
Still I wouldn’t even think of getting a zune.

neither

get an iriver!

Zune baby! I love my Zune, it’s the awesomest. lol. Trust me, it’s a great investment. You can watch vid’s, pics, trade music and pics, and listen to the radio. :)

buy a sandisk sansa or some ‘other’ brand.

I got a no frills, no video screen 512 mg for $20 (cody brand?). It holds like 20 hours of music. If it gets stolen, big deal.

no video

:(

[but I have to have something to watch at the gym when the nth episode of Hogans house comes on](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0ymI1Tvl3o</a>)

I’ve seen 2 and 4 gb players with video for ~$100.

I would NEVER BUY AN IPOD. I don’t like the idea that the battery is a non-consumer replaceable part. I don’t care if it lasts a year. I’m not sending a product to the manufacturer to get a new battery, ever.

There is NOTHING an Ipod can do that many other products can’t do for much less $$.

And people don’t want to steal the generic players as much as an Ipod

Well, ek, if it’s like my gym you can watch all the big plasma TV’s. 4 are tuned to FoxNews, 3 are tuned to FoxSports, 3 to ESPN and one to CNN. GUess that covers all possible interests, doesn’t it?

Zune is horrible. It is light years behind Apple’s ipod, nano, etc.

iPod.

While others might cost less, it is much easier to find accessories (car chargers, aux input stuff, etc.) that is compatible with iPod.

iPod. Our family of 5 has 7 of them.

iPod.

it’s hard (imo) to find other people with whom to share music (i guess because not many people own Zunes?). idk, iPods kind of suck, too (down with Apple!).

I admit I was fully ready to plunk down money tonight on an ipod.
Mine was stolen out of my car a couple days ago, but a generous soul wanted to give me some of her end of year bonus to buy me another one.
But since I couldn’t decide between a nano and a classic I surfedtehweb.

Oh sadness.
What I found was that the sound quality of the new pods is lacking , and it too “bright” sounding.
I brought my own headphones( sennheisers) to the apple store to test it out

I listened to preloaded music that I was familiar with on many different ipods hoping that it would sound as I expected- after all I have some midrange deafness, so I shouldn’t be able to tell- right?
But I couldn’t stand listening to them, it sounded so metallic, so crisp, it literally made my head hurt.

I spent at least an hour walking around and muttering, and ended up just buying some itunes cards for the girls.
So sad.
Now I have to hunt on craigslist.

i scored! although I found a couple 5th gen ipods at small dog
( I wouldn’t buy one off ebay)
just for the heck of it I looked online @ apple and I bought a brand new 5th gen video ipod for less than I would have to pay for ( IMO ) substandard 6th gen classic
:)

My oldest son has a zune and loves it. My daughter and youngest son have ipods and love them. My husband and I have a sansa mp3 player and still haven’t figured out how to work it…

I’ve always been happy with my iPod. It’s about 2.5 years old, and I haven’t had any problems with it. I’ve never had an iPod stolen. No one else in my family has ever had their iPod stolen, either. I don’t know anything about the alternatives, but I’ve been really happy with my iPod.

We have 3 ipods and two iPhones in the family and are delighted with them. I was given a Zune as a part of my job and found it to be vastly inferior from a full system point of view - e.g. loading music, user interface, etc.

As for the battery replacement issue, there are numerous third parties who will do it locally in the SF Bay Area… I view it as sort of like a watch battery - I just take it into a local store and get it done. No big deal.

Sure it would be nice if it were more like a cell phone battery - but on the other hand, the landfills are full of improperly discarded, leaking cell phone batteries and at least this way Apple/Third Party replacer will most likely deal with the dead battery appropriately.

No one else in my family has ever had their iPod stolen, either.

well you probably don’t have ADD
It took me a while to figure out it was stolen because I wasn’t sure where I left it

My D after living in the Reed bubble, where if you leave your laptop unattended in the library, someone takes it to Greywood ( security building), instead of “upgrading” their own, was in a neighborhood Seattle coffee shop reading and while her ipod was in her jacket pocket on her chair( and she got up to get napkins to mop up coffee she spilled), someone must have observed her placing it there.

( incidentally & this still makes me go HUH?? one person whose laptop was left unattended in the Reed college library and taken to lost and found, posted on livejournal about it. Rather than being grateful no harm came to it, and abashed at how dumb they were –they IMO were only technically a Reedie, one of those people who attends for a qtr and then never leaves, they weren’t a current student– they actually had the audacity to be p*iSSed that whomever picked it up, closed their application without saving it !!! ohnoes!  )

I guess my first shuffle was actually broken- the usb connector broke off when someone carelessly moved my laptop without seeing it plugged in.
I was so sad, because I really couldn’t go to the gym without it, so I * had * to replace it. Good luck /bad luck.
SO… I go to the Apple store- why yes! they have identical ipods! for $150 , however, it has already been released that in just a few weeks they will be coming out with new ipods for a cheaper price, and more memory- but still, the old ones are $ 150
But- I did happen to have the broken shuffle with me, and they took it as a trade in, and took $99 off the price of a 2nd gen nano ( one of the ones that was taken from my car)
They still do trade ins & it doesn’t have to be broken!
