Guys, I did an iq test a while back and scored 122. What is the average iq at top institutions like Stanford, mit, Carnegie Mellon, Berkeley? Is this score good enough to cope with the academics in such places?
The likelihood of a person succeeding at elite schools is not directly correlated to IQ. Don’t worry about it. What is a far greater indicator of how you will do in an elite academic environment is how you are currently doing in high school, re: the rigor of your course load and how you are performing academically in those classes.
What are your SAT scores?
I am frightened that my high school preparation won’t be good enough for any of these top schools. I am doing the IB and will mostly be predicted 42/45 points. I am frightened that I am not good enough for any of these top institutions…
Why would that “frighten” you?
Either you get admitted to one of them or you don’t and you go to another university.
My sat is 2280 with 800 math 750 CR and 730 writing
I’m redoing it for 800 in CR
You must be kidding me^
A couple comments on this whole thing…
- Your IQ is what it is. You can’t change it
- Folks smarter than you can tell where you sift out.
- This includes admissions committees.
- Trying to look smarter actually makes you look stupider.
- If you can’t stop thinking about it, you are going to fail.
One characteristic of successful people is that they are not worried about where they stand on the scale.

I don’t really know what your point is in the writing those 5 comments but you are off the mark with your “successful people are not worried about where they stand on the scale.” comment.
On the contrary, insecurity mixed with ambition is what led many successful people to where they are now. It is usually the people that are not worried about these things that are the ones who go on to live mediocre and complacent lives.
The OP has the right to be concerned about whether he would thrive in an environment like Berkeley or Stanford. I do believe he’ll be fine with an SAT score of 2280 and would be overdoing it by retaking the exam again just get a perfect score on the math. Regardless, his main concern should be trying to gain admission and he’s already past the threshold of what’s considered “competitive.”
