Irish help in application?

Hi, I’m an international student hoping to apply for a few colleges such as Notre Dame and Boston College. I’m from Northern Ireland and I was wondering whether being Irish would hold any weight in the colleges’ decision whether to admit me (if even small)? Thanks :)

No- it is very unlikely to carry any weight. These are competitive schools that take other factors into account rather than heritage.

Nonsense! Schools value diversity, and unless they’re overrun with applicants from Northern Ireland (which I would doubt), I’m sure it would weigh, however slightly, in your favor.

Look at other “Irish heritage” schools though. For the two you named, it may nudge you to the admit pile “all other things being equal” but it won’t make up for lower stats or lackluter essays.

It might help…especially if you are an international applicant not in need of financial aid.
