I am studying in Ireland and I will be in the senior year (6th year) in 2 days. When I was filling the common app’s section of education where they ask about ‘Current or Most Recent Year Courses’ and you write your courses, I was very confused
First of all, in Leaving Cert ( which is 2 years, junior and senior year) you do 7 subjects for 2 years so what do I write in courses in this section of app? DO I write these 7 subjects as my 7 courses?
Secondly, what does ‘course scheduling system mean?’ I don’t think my schools follows one? I mean we have different exams for each year…I mean in junior year we had Christmas and summer exams while in Senior year we will have continuous assessments, mocks and THE LEAVING CERT…How does this work?
Thirdly, in Ireland we have 2 basic levels , ordinary and Higher level. I do all Higher level subjects…so what do I in ‘Course
level, if applicable’?
Thank you for reading and sorry for so many questions
Also In section of testing what does this mean ‘In addition to sending official score reports as required by colleges, do you wish to self-report scores or future test dates for any of the following standardized tests: ACT, SAT/SAT Subject, AP, IB, TOEFL, PTE Academic, and IELTS?’?
I mean what does self-report mean? I thought scores are sent by the organization itself?
You should probably contact the Common App help desk and ask these questions. There aren’t enough people on this forum who are familiar with the Irish education system, but there should be someone at CA who can help you.
You write your seven subjects with 'higher’next to them.
Ex:
English, Higher
Economics, Higher
You select AP if you’re required to enter a level. Leaving Cert Ordinary = honors
Leaving cert, Junior = standard/regular
(this is an approximation as the common app format may require you to enter *something *)
You’ll have 'does promotion in your school system require national leaving exams " click yes, and enter “junior certificate " and " Leaving certificate” if you were in an Irish system school in KSA or O’Levels or IGCSE 's or whatever punk took.
Self-report means that in addition to having the scores sent to universities by CollegeBoard etc, you enter them by yourself in that section. But it’s not very important since colleges only care about the scores officially sent by the testing agency and they have no clue that the ones you’ll type in are correct. I don’t know about the rest so you should ask an Irish person in college or the common app help desk.
