i don’t know if they’ll get bogged down or what. i basically have scans/ pics of 18 drawings, paintings, and sculptures. 1 college requires printouts (i’m doing 4 per page), and the others want a cd. also, do they all have to be labeled w/ dates, titles, etc? and is it okay to handwrite those in on the printout?

sorry, lots of questions–any help would be appreciated.

I’m not an expert on this, but I think 18 pieces is fine. They should be labelled (usually date, title, media). If you’re going to handwrite the labels, make the handwriting really nice.

I suggest asking the colleges. I know that with writing submissions, most colleges only want about 3 examples, not 18, but art may be different.

From son’s experience last year - each college had different requirements. Some colleges said to submit no more than x (I think 12 in one case); some wanted slides, and some wanted the slides labeled in a certain way. In general my son labeled each slide with his name and social sec # or the relevant college id#; he attached a summary sheet indicating medium and dimensions to the sheet of slides. He submitted 10 slides. He prepared the slide labels on the computer.

You’ll really need to check with each school!

Definitely contact each school regarding their preferred format first. That said, 18 pieces or images is fine. A typical slide sheet holds 20 slides. My daughter is using Avery computer generated labels with her name, # of the piece, title, media, date & dimensions (h x w). Summary sheet as “jrpar” said, no matter what the format, basically with all the same information. Some colleges don’t want any portfolios, which is pretty discouraging. Others want to know your motivation for each piece. One thought regarding printout, it might be to the benefit of each piece, to be printed out separately.

ok thanks–i’m just glad i am not WAY over the limit. i have contacted the colleges and gotten their formats, but none have specific numbers. i figure it should take about 45 seconds to a minute to scroll through all of them on the cd–not really a long time. and the computer printouts should take the same. a lot of them are just sketches, so it won’t take long to look @ them.

and i never thought of labeling w/ sizes–but that is a good point.
