is 1980 a good SAT score for the following schools?

a “yes,” “no,” “probably,” “probably not” or “maybe” will suffice…

Lehigh
Lafayette
Rutgers
UPenn
Cornell
Boston University
George Washinton University
Georgetown
The College of New Jersey

Oh yeah, for those who are wondering, my individual section scores are 740M, 650CR, 590W(hope to improve on the writing in particular when I take the SAT again)

Thanks.

Also, I want to major in some sort of math or science, if that influences what you think.

Forget Penn and Cornell and probably Georgetown and GWU at those levels.
The others are ok.

Yes, your critical reading and mathematics scores are in the middle 50% range of most of those schools, the exception being Penn and Georgetown. Writing, you should work on.

Lehigh - yes
Lafayette - yes
Rutgers - yes
UPenn - no
Cornell - no
Boston University - probably
George Washinton University - probably
Georgetown - no
The College of New Jersey - I don’t know

Based off the average SAT scores of accepted students.

Lehigh: probably
Lafayette: probably
Rutgers: yes
UPenn: no
Cornell: no
Boston University: probably
George Washinton University: probably
Georgetown: no
The College of New Jersey: probably

This isn’t really a great question since the SAT is only one criterion. Surely, if you are weak in other areas, that score will not get you into the Ivies and other similary selective schools (Georgetown). Even a very strong SAT score alone will not get a student into such schools. However, if you are aiming for the ivies, you should do a lot of practice tests and retake; the score really matters quite a bit. Even if you dn’t get into the Ivies or they are not your aim, a higher SAT score can get you a better scholarship at Rutgers or TCNJ.

However, if your GPA is very high (top 2% or so) or if you have shown great extracurricular achievement, these can be more important than your SAT score and this score may even be sufficient for Ivies. In any case, a 1980 is not going to prevent you from getting into any of these scores (50% score below average).

Good luck in any case.
