I recently took the SAT and got a 2210, with 750 M, 740 CR and 720 W, with a score of 8 on the essay. This was my first time and I don’t know if I should take it again, even if to improve my essay score. I really want to do engineering at UIUC or UMich but I don’t know if this is good enough. I’m doing the IB and I’ve been predicted 7s in all my HLs (Math, Physics and Chemistry) and two of my SLs (History and English) and a 6 in Spanish. I have some ECs - I’m the creative secretary at my school and I’m part of our acapella group and school choir. A lot of people told me that with my grades, I don’t need to re-take the SAT, but I’m not sure. Will 2210 be good enough for UIUC or UMich? How would Ivys like Cornell or Princeton look at it?
Thanks to anyone who answers :)

yes. this is fine for any school in the country

Did you take the January 2014 SAT?

It should be fine for Michigan and Illinois; you might want to go higher for Cornell or Princeton, especially if you’re doing engineering–get the math closer to an 800.

Yeah, I took the January 2014 SAT. I’m taking it again tomorrow (June 7). I think my CR and Writing scores are not exactly on par with what the ivys are looking for, so I’ll try improve those too…

2210 should be in the 99th or 98th percentile - it is basically good enough - you have to have the rest of the qualifications. Since you are taking it again anyway - you can try to up your score. I would not spend the rest of your pre-college life compulsively taking it pushing for 2400.

If you like engineering, you can definitely improve on your math. Then your superscore will go up to 2260.

Also I see that you have an 8 essay, which means if you had a 10 (focus on length and 3 points), you probably would have gotten around 750-760 (possibly), which would bring you up to the golden 2300.

Plus since you said your CR is not up to par, you may even improve in that! I say you take it again as you definitely have room for improvement.

I actually did a lot better this time, and I’m pretty sure I got an 800 in math. I did my essay in a more focused manner too. Hopefully I can reach 2300! I don’t plan on writing it again :)

Could be better (always room for improvement
), but it’s a very good score! Congrats :)

Thank you! But still keeping fingers crossed for my June score :)
