Is 2280 very average for an Asian Female?

I’ve already taken the SAT twice, and got 2280 as my composite score. One sitting was 2260. I’m a Canadian, so I guess that puts me in the international pool. I wont be applying for financial aid, and I’d like to do Early Action.

Is 2280 too low of a score? This is if I have rather strong ECs.

2280 is fine.

I have no idea what is or isn’t average, but i’ve met plenty of people who’ve been accepted with high 2200s.

A 2280 is definitely not low, even for Yale, but I’m sure it isn’t necessarily high for Yale either. I’d say its at least above average for Yale and will make you competitive at least in respects to SAT scores.

2280 is definitely, DEFINITELY not a low score. Don’t be worried about SAT score. It’s just one small piece of the big picture that Yale looks at.

Being Canadian does not put you into the international applicants pool. I believe this policy also applies to students studying from Mexico. Although I don’t have an exact link I do know that I read this while applying to Yale myself this year. You may call the admissions office for more information on this. Also a 2280 places you slightly above the competitive 2250 mark. How are your SAT II scores? Are they equally as competitive or slight lackluster? Having strong ECs is very important so as an applicant you have a decent chance at best. I don’t know how SCEA will be this upcoming cycle as Harvard and Princeton have eliminated their SCEA and ED programs respectively so some of their applicants may or may not apply to Yale early since it’s not binding. This only brings up the level of competition. I seem to have digressed a lot in this post, but to answer you question overall: no your scores are fine for Yale.

it’s in the Yale average range. what was the breakdown?

Yoshi,
Where did you hear the “Canadian = non-International” theory from? I’m pretty sure that anyone outside of USA is an international (although I’m not too sure about American citizens residing in other countries etc).

I wasn’t denying the fact that Canadians are internationals just the fact that Canadians are not placed within the international applicant pool. If you reference to my post, I belive I highlight this quite clearly in the first sentence. Also American citizens studying residing countries would be counted as aliens of that country unless they seek citizenship.

maybe a third time… aiming for Perfect! but scores are realllly good. good job!
