Is 3D animation a good career path?

I have been doing Animation courses since my freshman year, and have consistently been getting 100s and doing better than my fellow students(all of my teachers have admitted this). Since I am now a Senior, it is time for me to think about my major. I was wondering if 3D animation is a good major, and if 3D animation is a well paying, and steady career.

According to a variety of sources, it appears that the average salary of a 3D animator is around $50K to $60K per year. 3D animation jobs are also growing quickly, as most animation is done this way now and animators are needed for all sorts of media - children’s shows and movies, of course, but also video games, commercials, even potentially some media for adults. I don’t know but I guess that, like many art careers, this is probably really competitive to get into - especially if you want to work for a top company like Disney/Pixar or Activision or something as an animator.
