is .4 GPA good for first semester of college?

is it?

i think it actually looks nice. but i like it for a lot more than the obvious aesthetic reasons. yeah, the decimal point being to the left of the 4 rather than to the right of it does accentuate the 4 more and make the number overall look more appealing, but that is not primarily why i like it. and i don’t say that to slight anyone who has it on the right side - there’s nothing wrong with having it there, really - it just looks more visually invigorating when it’s on the left to me.

why i think i like it is for a lot of the same reasons why a lot of people seem to like ‘bad’ things. like you know how stealing little things is supposed to be bad, and if you have upstanding parents they will say it’s wrong and strongly discourage it, but then actually when you try it how it turns out to be kind of thrilling and fun - especially when you do it in a way to mitigate social consequences and when you take something you appreciate a lot? i know how that feels, and achieving my gpa has resulted in the same kinds of positive feelings. i have to confess it hasn’t been done completely guiltlessly, and not all the feelings are good, but when can all the feelings be good? that would be asking for an awful lot. there is something about how failing something, but doing so in a comprehensive way, seems much more satisfying than any of the possible alternatives.

i don’t know what the future holds for my gpa, but i plan to continue to like it - whether it goes up or god forbid even lower - and bring it up in a way where once it is fixed and final i can be as proud of it as i am now.

I like your chances for improvement. I think you can do it. GL

aww thanks <3

thats baller <3

this support feels nice :>

it’s a change of pace from all the appalled reactions i was getting. i felt like no one could understand why i was proud.

They put people on academic probation for getting anything less than a 2.0 here. 2.0-2.4 gets a warning. Then if you don’t bring it out of that range the second quarter you’re academically disqualified and kicked out of the university for good.

It should only go up from here on out until you clear the 2.0 mark. But “nice work”, I guess?

my mom will kill me if that happens.

You should be kicked out (or at least given a semester off if there are things going on in your life causing you to fail).

College is such a huge adjustment that i think 3 semesters at least is called for, but this gave me a good laugh. Reminds me when some guy in high school practically jumped on top of me celebrating his D+ on accounting exam. Then i got annoyed and was like “good for you” all sarcastically and to my astonishment he got really mad, like he was actually proud of the D+. Well, maybe some employers won’t notice the decimal placement?

“Well, maybe some employers won’t notice the decimal placement?”

Put a “4 GPA” on a resume =P

It’s SFSU. You made the Dean’s List.

I agree with Bigwig. Just remove the decimal and you’re golden.

there is no need for that. i am already golden.

and maybe i did make the deans list, or at least fell somewhere in the middle. i never got the notice about academic probation like i was supposed to - and i even filled out all the related forms in advance! (they’re still in my drawer). maybe they had to lower the bar for academic probation to avoid dismissing too many students and losing out on collecting those government-issued loans.
