<p>I’m a high school student and my goal is to Pomona College, however my parents are upper middle class professionals and I highly doubt I’ll qualify for need based financial aid, but I was wonder if scholarships could be a realistic option. Do you think it’d be possible to raise $40000 worth of scholarships in 25 months? Btw I’m a Hispanic from Arizona whose parents didn’t attend college, although we’re still well-to-do.</p>

<p>I don’t think Pomona gives scholarships since all their students are high achievers (couldn’t look it up, their web site is down). You can apply for outside scholarships. Try your local community, your high school, and search online.</p>
<p>That’s what I was referring to, external scholarships. He applied early and is almost positive he’ll be accepted, but he’s worried to death about the financial aspects. He thinks it’s impossible to come up with the money even if he starts today through scholarships and doesn’t want to leave college heavy in debt, but he loves Pomona so much. I think he can do it, but maybe easier said than done? Does anyone think it’s possible to raise that much money in 2 years?</p>
<p>I earned more than that, actually, but I did so by attending a community college first. There are a lot of external merit-based scholarships available for CC transfer students. It’s a good road to consider if finances, especially the lack of need-based aid, are a concern.</p>
