I will be a dual enrollment student at a community college (junior in high school) starting this fall and I am taking 5 classes this semester. The admissions advisor said that most students in the dual enrollment program took 5 classes each semester and did fine, but I’m still really nervous about the workload. Do you think it’s doable? How heavy of a load will it be?
I’m taking: Sociology, U.S. History, Intro to Statistics, Speech, & English 101
Five classes is standard for college students, so you should be fine as far as the number of classes. However, some colleges won’t transfer online classes taken in high school, and I think it would look better to take in-person AP classes at your high school if possible.
The most important thing is that you do well in these courses, as they may count toward your college GPA. Check your state school for sure to see if that is the case.
As you are a junior taking college courses, I would consider maybe dropping one of them…they will be much faster paced than HS courses. Do you have HS courses too? Have you ever taken online classes before?
Are you self-organized/motivated?
Graduate schools and other programs will typically ask for transcripts from all colleges attended, so the grades will typically count in some way even if the classes don’t transfer (or if they transfer without the letter grades).
