I received a 770 on the SAT world subject test. This is the 91st percentile and I’m hesitating whether to send the score. I’m looking to apply to top colleges and my overall choice is Dartmouth. I’ve read online that anything below 780 is not worth sending. Is this true? 770 is right on the edge. Would this score be good enough or should I retake it?
It’s a solid score. For the tippy top schools, I have read here and there that anything above a 750 is all that is required. It’s good enough…and the percentile isn’t really meaningful for Subject tests. Good job!
You read incorrectly. Maybe (and it’s debatable) <780 on M2 for MIT or Harvey Mudd might be less-than-desirable. Foe pretty much everyone else a 770 in any subject test is excellent. Send it.
It is important to understand that for several subjects, the percentiles are depressed because so few colleges request Subject Tests, that the ones that do are the ultra selective ones. As a result, it is the high achieving kids taking the tests. No AO is sitting on the floor cross-referencing scores with percentiles.
