Is 8 Hours too much over summer?

Is 8 hours too much over summer if one wishes to work a part time job too?

I want to take M408D and PHY303L+103LN over summer at UT

The summer is split into 2 mini semesters. Since this is the case, couldn’t you take M408D one mini semester, then PHY303L+103LN the next semester? That was you would have 3 hours one semester then 5 the next. That would make it much less stressful for you. Have you considered that option?

I took 8 hours this past summer, both E&M and Cal 3. I was in class from 10 to 10 twice a week… it was a bit brutal to be honest. I got a B in physics and an A in Cal. Granted, I took them at UTD, but I wouldn’t do it again unless necessary. It’s certainly doable, but the amount of homework I was assigned led me to just copy the solutions manual at times.

I took 9 credits in one session during the summer and I got all As so it’s certainly not impossible. Def doable if you spread it out between the two sessions. I didn’t have a job at the time though…

Looking at your planned classes, I would definitely recommend that you try the 9 week classes if possible so as to allow yourself more time to space the material out and study. If this is not possible, doing Calculus the first half of the semester and the Physics and next is definitely doable. The thing is you really have got to have the discipline to attend classes (which are compacted in the summer) regularly and study revise your work everyday to stay on pace.

i think that PHY 303L is 9 weeks and that M408D is for the full summer term so it’s definitely manageable. it is a lot of work though so just be prepared…and be warned that for PHY 303L that you’ll have quest homework due every day from what i’ve heard.

Only you can really answer this question, there are enough variables that you have to put it together.

1: What classes are you taking?
2: Do you find the subject matter difficult/easy?
3: Do you need A’s?
4: Are you going to be dedicated in your studies? Meaning can you get distracted by vacation activities.
5: Who will be the professor? This can be make or break in my book.

I’ve noticed the summer classes have a different feel/pace to them than the regular semester. It can be good if you’re head down and are willing to work. The good news is the classes pass by much faster than they do in a regular semester.
