my friend got a 1230/1820 on his sat (630 verbal+600 math +590W +10 essay) he is applying ED to CALS

1230 is below average…the average sat score is 1300 (give or take)…

you want closer to 1300 to be competitive…but at this point depends on what major you’re applying to and whether or not you are an URM…

if your friend improves his scores he’ll have a better chance…but not competitive.

anyone else have any opinions?

I had 1280 before and that was only in the 25 percentile (which is very low). 1230, to me, seems very low for Cornell, especially for CALS standard. UNLESS your friend has something oh-so special (I’m talking like Intel-Science-Fair-grand-winner-kind-of-thing) that Cornell just has to have him.

My suggestion for your friend is to take the ACT and see how he does on that.

anyone else?

very low regardless of major or school (unless your a urm, athlete legacy)

i was a gt transfer and got a 1250. It is low, you better have a good essay or something

Yeah, that is too low. I had below that and took the ACT. Got a 31, which is near 1400. Def. Recommend taking the ACT!
