Is a 2.7 GPA bad?

I just finished my first quarter of college, and I got a 2.7 GPA. I’m so frustrated with myself. My major is difficult (physics), but I feel like I could’ve done better. I was dealing with multiple medication changes and wasn’t able to study for my physics midterm OR final, so I got a C. I’ve never received such a low GPA in my life. Any advice? Do I still have a shot at getting a phd?

My husband, a PhD, got a 0.8 one semester in early undergraduate school. Try not to worry about a PhD program right now. Instead focus on what you can do next quarter (instead of what you might or might not be doing four or five years from now) to improve your GPA and keep at that. You can bring it up.

A2.7 is pretty average for first semester freshman. Don’t worry.

It’s not an ideal start but you have seven more semesters to bring it up. Definitely doable.
